Remembering the battle for Saanichton Bay; celebrating the 35th anniversary of a groundbreaking victory. Saanichton Bay, where the Tsawout village sits, was the site of a public battle between developers and W̱SÁNEĆ people over traditional fishing grounds. This case drew out over 15 years and culminated in a groundbreaking legal victory for Tsawout First Nation. W̱SÁNEĆ Elders are invited to speak at the observatory The Dominion Astrophysical Observatory has issued an invitation to any W̱SÁNEĆ Elders who would like to speak at the Observatory's forthcoming Saturday night Star Parties. Speakers would give two 30-minute talks given to audiences at 8 pm and 9 pm. Honoraria will be provided. The star parties will be resuming after the COVID break starting this Saturday. Patricia Williams won top prize in the senior division at Tsartlip Indian school, winning $25. Her sister Karen won $10 first prize in the junior division. VIU Summer Camp Makes Transition to University Easier for Indigenous Students

The camp, which includes a blend of online and in-person activities, is organized by the VIU ‘su’luqw’a’ Community Cousins Aboriginal mentorship program. A free summer camp for Indigenous youth in Grades 7-12 will connect students with culture, build community and make the transition to university easier.
