Interviewer: Who are you, and where are you from?

My name is Eugene, but I go by Blake. I am from Tsartlip and Ahousaht First Nation.

Interviewer: Can you tell me about your recent athletic accomplishments in Lacrosse?

I was drafted to the Junior A Shamrocks and honoured as Victoria’s high school athlete of the year. Additionally, I received the Premier’s Award from I·SPARC (Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council) for competing at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I also served as the starting goalie for TNBC and earned a gold medal at the Alberta Indigenous Games.

Interviewer: How did you prepare/train to get to this point in your athletic life?

My grandpa has helped me learn the sport since I was eight— I am seventeen now. I go to the gym for about two hours four or five times a week. That’s about it for all I do. And, of course, I’m at practice whenever I’m not at the gym.

Interviewer: Who have you trained with in the past, or who has positively influenced you to this point?

I’ve been to a few training sessions with NLL goalie Aaron Bold, but that was a while ago, and The Shamrocks.

Interviewer: Has there been anybody that you look up to? Or anyone who’s influenced you?

My grandpa influenced me a lot.

Interviewer: How does it feel to succeed in Lacrosse?

It’s a good feeling for me and my family. I started getting all these awards just recently.

Interviewer: What would you tell anybody who’s just starting out in Lacrosse?

Keep practicing, stay consistent and practice like you play.

Interviewer: What are your next big dreams and goals within Lacrosse?

Making the playoffs this year with the team I’m playing for right now, The Oceanside Sharks, and to win another gold medal at the Alberta Indigenous Games.

Interviewer: Is there anyone you want to thank or acknowledge who has helped you get to this point?

My teammates, coaches, friends that I play with… and my Grandpa.
