Who are you, and where are you from

ÍY SȻÁĆEL HÁLE XÍXELÁȾE TŦE NE SNÁ ĆSE LÁ,E SEN EṮ W̱SÁNEĆ

Good day, everyone. My name is Patrick Elliott, and my traditional name is Thuyquletse’. I come from the W̱SÁNEĆ and Stz’uminus territories located on Vancouver Island.

Can you share what winning the Greater Victoria Athletic Award means to you?

Winning this award is an incredible honour and a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion I’ve put into the sport. To have Alex Nelson attend the ceremony made it even more special. It also reflects the support I’ve received from my coaches, teammates, family, and community. Being recognized among so many talented athletes in Victoria motivates me to keep pushing my limits and striving for excellence.

What challenges have you faced in your athletic career, and how have they shaped you into the competitor you are today?

Like many athletes, I’ve faced setbacks—whether injuries, tough losses, or moments of self-doubt. One of the biggest challenges was developing mental toughness while overcoming injury. These experiences have taught me resilience, discipline, and the importance of a strong mindset. I’ve learned that success isn’t just about talent but also about perseverance and how you respond to adversity.

How do you hope to inspire or give back to your sports community?

I want to give back by coaching, mentoring young athletes, volunteering, & sharing my experiences with First Nation communities here in BC. I know how much it meant to me to have role models when I was younger, so I hope to be that for the next generation. Whether through training sessions, motivational talks, or being supportive, I want to help others believe in themselves and reach their potential.

What’s next for you?

I’m excited for the next chapter, which includes continuing my athletic career at a higher level, pursuing university soccer, working on my skills, and training harder than ever. My goal is to keep improving, competing at the highest level possible, and making the most of every opportunity that comes my way.

Is there anything else you’d like people to know?

I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me on this journey. I wouldn’t be here without them. I also want to remind aspiring athletes that success takes time, effort, and a willingness to learn from every experience. No matter where you start, if you stay committed and put in the work, great things are possible.
