Who are you, and where are you from

ÍY SȻÁĆEL HÁLE XÍXELÁȾE TŦE NE SNÁ ĆSE LÁ,E SEN EṮ W̱SÁNEĆ

Good day everyone, my name is Patrick Elliott and my traditional name is Thuyquletse’, I come from the W̱SÁNEĆ and Stz’uminus territories located on Vancouver Island.

Can you tell me about your recent athletic accomplishments?

In the Summer of 2024, I debuted in the Pacific Coast Soccer League (PCSL) and was selected as Man Of The Match against semi-pro side Kamloops Rivers FC, BC, league 1 team. With my team, Westcastle finished in second place in the league overall.

In August of 2024, I was signed by Lakehill FC division 1 team. In the first game, I received Player Of The Game against strong VIU Mariners side.

Recently, I was selected to the VISL All-Star game, and have the opportunity to lead my team in assists.

Finally, in September of 2024, I debuted with Lakehill FC in Vancouver Island Soccer League division 1 (VISL D1) scoring seven goals and three assists in the first seven games.

How did you prepare/train to get to this point in your athletic life?

Hard work, gratitude, dedication, sacrifices and patience.

Who have you trained with in the past, or who has positively influenced you to this point?

I always look up to my older brother, Gordie Jr. As a kid, I watched him achieve his goals in soccer and lacrosse. I’ll never forget those moments. He continues to inspire me today.

How did it feel to achieve your accomplishments?

It’s a good feeling, but I’m nowhere near where I want to be yet. There’s always room for improvement.

What would you tell anybody starting out in soccer?

Build your relationship with the ball, chase your dreams, work hard, be humble, and believe in yourself.

What are your next dreams and goals?

The dream doesn’t change. I continue chasing the goal of obtaining a professional career in soccer.

What are you doing for the rest of the year in soccer?

Continue to play through the season, be willing to learn, embrace the feelings, and stay positive no matter what.

Is there anyone you want to thank or acknowledge who has helped you get to this point?

I’d like to thank my family, friends, teammates and coaches. I’d also like to thank the W̱SÁNEĆ Nations for supporting Indigenous athletes. It doesn’t go unnoticed.

Conclusion

“Patrick is a role model for our youth and all soccer players within the W̱SÁNEĆ and First Nation communities. His community and family are very proud of him. He plays in Div1 of the Vancouver Island Soccer League, and he played in the Pacific Coast Soccer League briefly this past summer before deciding to take a breather from soccer. He has not always played at a high level, opting to play with his buddies.

He has received many trophies since he was just five years old. It seems like in every tournament he enters, he receives either an All-Star, Best Offensive Player, High Goal Scorer, or MVP. His dedication to his own personal training is incredible and can consist of daily workouts at the soccer field or Futsal Court or in the gym where he will undergo weight regime, stretching routines or yoga routine to help prevent injury. He looks up to and trains with his older brother Gordie Jr, a long-time role model in soccer and well-decorated over his career. This year, they are playing together on Lakehill, a very well-respected and consistently competitive team.

Patrick and Gordie are both very well supported by our local community; many people head out to watch their game weekly, and Patrick has 7 goals in 7 games this year, leading his team and tied for 2nd in most goals in the VISL. His brother Gordie is tied for 3rd with 5 goals. Patrick is still chasing a professional career. He for sure has the potential.”
