Job Description:
Year-Round Yard Maintenance is seeking dedicated and hardworking Crew Members for a deer fencing installation project on Sidney Island. This position involves physical outdoor work, requiring heavy lifting, use of tall ladders, and collaboration with team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fencing Installation: Install deer fencing according to specified techniques and height requirements.
- Teamwork: Work cooperatively within a crew of three, as part of a team as large as 12 distributing tasks effectively.
- Transportation: Utilize Zoom boom (5519 Telehandler), ATVs, Side by Sides, and Gators to transport and place net bags at designated locations.
- Safety: Follow strict safety protocols, including daily stretching exercises and proper PPE usage.
- Daily Operations: Participate in morning meetings, plan daily tasks, and ensure vehicles and tools are properly fueled and supplied.
- Progress Reporting: Track and report measurable results daily, maintaining clean and tidy workspaces.
- End-of-Day Procedures: Restore work areas, account for and secure equipment, and participate in end-of-day check-ins to discuss progress and plan for the next day.
Shift Details:
- Week Shifts: Monday to Friday. Weekends may be required if installation falls behind schedule.
- Day Shift Length: 8 hours per day.
- Overnight Stay: The crew will stay on Sidney Island for the week shift Monday through Thursday nights.
- Field Camp Accommodations Provided by Parks Canada:
- Canvas wall tents with cots and sleeping bags (2 people per tent)
- Water
- Shower
- Covered, heated common area for eating and recreation
- Pit Toilets
- Woodstove and wood, or generator and electric heater for heat
- 3 healthy and substantial meals per day (breakfast, pack lunch, dinner), plus access to drinks and snacks
- Parks Canada personnel to manage camp logistics
- Prospective candidates who may be hired as crew members must understand that government properties are designated non-smoking areas, and the use of alcohol, cannabis, and illegal drugs is strictly prohibited. Any breach of these rules by a crew member will result in their immediate removal from the site and dismissal from the role.
**This length of the daily shift may change to 10 hours and the week length would change to four.
Currently, the crew would arrive on the island Monday morning, stay Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights and depart after work on Friday. If we move to 10 hour days and 4 day work week, the crew would arrive Monday morning, stay Tuesday, and Wednesday and depart after work Thursday.
**There will be a shuttle bus from each crew member home to the pier and back at the end of each weekly shift.

- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including heavy lifting and using tall ladders.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Experience with outdoor manual labour preferred.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
