Nicole grew up and lives on Tsawout territory and is passionate about connecting with her community and learning more about the history and lands of the W̱SÁNEĆ people.

Can you tell me a bit about who you are and where you’re from?

I’m Nicole Joe. I am a member of CowichanTribes, and I grew up and live in Tsawout territory, where my grandmother and mother are from. My band is Cowichan. That’s where my late father is from. 

What kind of work will you be doing with the W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Council?

I have been hired as an administrative assistant. I absolutely love it here. The team is so welcoming and has a great, positive atmosphere. This position is brand new.

Can you share some of the background and experience you bring to this position?

I have been in administrative work. Social development and being office manager previously.

What impact do you hope to have during your time with the WLC?

I believe my passion and commitment to the work that WLC is working on and their future plans align with my cultural values and beliefs. My values and beliefs have been instilled in me by my parents and grandparents.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

I love the gym, I like to go hiking, and spending time with my children and granddaughter.

Is there anything else you’d like community members to know?

I am a proud mom of five and a very proud grandmother of my 4-month-old granddaughter, which makes me a loving, respectful and truthful W̱SÁNEĆ member.
