The Northern portion of Sidney Island is closed to the public for the remainder of February, specifically for Coast Salish hunting.

Shown above, the map of Sidney Island closures and hunting facilities, exclusively for Coast Salish hunters.

This initiative is part of the work the WLC has done with Parks Canada to reconnect W̱SÁNEĆ people with the land, ancient hunting practices, and sacred responsibilities.

In addition to providing transportation to and from the Island, Parks Canada has also installed two hunting blinds located at the NE and SW corners of “Radar Field” (please see map) as a tool for hunters who wish to use them. A  canvas wall tent, fire ring, and shelter with a picnic table are also provided to encourage multi-day hunts.

To book your hunting trip to Sidney Island, please call Ben Tooby Hunt Coordinator and Safety Officer at Parks Canada at (250-507-6653) or ben.tooby@pc.gc.ca
